Labor day such a wonderful day. Lovely weather we have too for today. And on this very special day I caught a cute dragonfly with colors black and green combination from thorax to its tail. This winged creature whose wings are light, transparent and flipped almost like a windmill. I couldn't describe how the wings work whether it could be similar to the movements of the helicopter's spinning turbine. No not that kind of description. It's more like flapping wings that keeps up an down but never spin. Yeah that's the truth it doesn't spin its wings. How I caught this creature is something you wont believe. The door at the kitchen is open because we're canning once again. The last of the salmons that were caught by hubby Lorne is being processed there at the backyard. The door is open and the lovely dragonfly flew inside the house. It flew up to the ceiling. The noise or sound of its wings flapping made me aware of its presence that I tried to catch it. The ceiling was so up high that I need a chair to grab it. Well the ceiling is too high, I am too small and short and chubby. Lorne told me to wait a lil' while and that winged creature will get tired and settle down below. It's true. The dragonfly, poor and tired flew down to the window sill. So I slowly pull the blinds down and cornered the dragonfly. I caught it with my bare hands. Wow! This reminds me of childhood memories when I used to catch dragonflies and butterflies down the mulberry fields in the province.
Amazed of holding a big dragonfly while it keeps flipping and biting my palm, I noticed another winged creature on the window sill. A black and yellow insect - a small bumble bee.
The very sad part is the bumble bee is dead. It died and suffocated from the very hot temperature of the window. It was dry and lifeless. Poor bumble bee. My husband told me to place it on top of the yellow flower, on top of the yellow garden mum.
My daughter's all smile when she saw the dragonfly as it flips its wings trying to get away from my hand. Then I told my daughter to touch it for herself. At first she was a bit scared. It's a very dainty, not that harmful insect. It wont bother you. Dragonflies are garden friends and beneficial for the pollination of a beautiful healthy garden.
So we placed the wriggly dragonfly on top of the dark red garden mums as it wiggled, wriggled, flapping it wings, having a loop da loop, inching away its body away from my hand but I have a strong grip to its tail even if it fights for its freedom.
Oh don't you like the dragonfly on this such a lively colorful background? What could be the best background? The blue of heaven above? Red as in wicked red? Yellow background as in slow down? White as in white as pearl? Green as the green evergreen forest and it's time to let go?
Taking the advice of my hubby to let go of the poor dragonfly. The winged creature strong and once robust is tired, very tired that it needs to fly away to where it belongs. I let it go and the dragonfly flew again to that window sill.
You silly dupey dragonfly it's time to go.
You can fly where you want to be and you decide where you can be free.
Soon it flips and flaps its transparent lightweight wings and the creature although tiny and small is free again ...
See 'ya later when you have the chance to visit us once again.
I think I could hear its last farewell bid "FREE AT LAST."
