J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER is an American Theoretical Physicist. He is the Director of the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos Laboratory - World War II
The story begins with young J.Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy) as a young novice student of Physics and he was ridiculed in class that made him think of killing his professor by injecting a potassium cyanide on the fruit sitting on his professor's desk. However, by remorse he grabbed the fruit from his professor's mouth and threw the fruit in the trash. Many years had passed and Oppie (nickname) was accepted and employed in a prestigious university and everyone was so amazed of his knowledge. He joined in the Federation of Architects, Chemists, Engineers & Technicians which is actually a "Trade's Union." He met Lewis Strauss (played by Robert Downey Jr.), they were like friends for a while but when Oppie became popular something strange happened between them. Oppie's popularity has reached to the "peak" and met Albert Einstein. Also in this movie, Oppie had extra marital affair with Jean Tatlock and whether Oppie's wife Katherine (portrayed by Emily Blunt) knew about it she was shown as a very depressed woman, alcoholic (?) and unfit mother that their child has to be taken care of by Oppie's brother Frank.
Despite of Oppie's womanizing escapade, Lt. Gen. Leslie Grover (played by Matt Damon) was amazed and smitten by J. Robert's knowledge about theoretical physics which somehow will help them in their secret project. At first, Oppie was reluctant and other scientist balked out. Oppie found out there is already the "framework" ready for the design, structure, quality and quantity or amount of explosives to be incorporated in the giant ball of special bomb. What it looks like? A GIANT STRUCTURE OF ATOM.
The first test of the atomic bomb happened in the remote area in New Mexico. The first test was successful and although they were shock at its impact they were happy indeed. Two atomic bombs were created. After that Oppie got nothing to do with it because it was a secret military operation.
END OF WORLD WAR II. The Japanese Imperial Army surrendered, the Emperor bowed down and lowered his status and surrendered, some of those wicked, cruel evil Japanese soldiers committed hara-kiri. While some of them ran and still hiding. The American soldiers returned home to their families in United States of America.
Oppie was invited by Pres. Truman and congratulated him for the American Victory of World War II. However, Oppie was having guilty feeling when Pres. Truman said, it is not his fault when it was the President of the United States who was at its command. Then the "Kangaroo Court" happened like kind of personal interrogation on Oppenheimer whether he is a member of Communist Party or what and this case has something to do with Lewis Strauss who had personal vendetta or had deep seated envy about Oppie.
Anyway, Oppie met Einstein one more time and Oppie hand over a piece of paper to Einstein and the old man just told him, "This is yours, not mine!"
Years had passed by and J.Robert Oppenheimer was cleared securely and was awarded with Presidential Honor at the White House.
