It was at about 4pm when I decided it's time to cook. The chicken inside the fridge is waiting. I had it defrosted or thawed since the other day and I though this could be the best time to roast it. We'll have roast chicken, steamed potatoes, gravy, fresh broccolli and rice. Rice is optional but knowing my little girl wont be able to eat without rice on the table.
While pondering on another option. Whether I have to have chicken or beef instead, my oldest son was rushing upstairs looking for something. When asked he mentioned something about "token." What is that he is saying? Then he showed me his gold necklace probably 24 K given by his Dad. He likes it. Who wont love gold? Gold is the most expensive, precious metal in the world.
Then he hurriedly went for a tee off in the golf course of his dream.
While I was busy at the kitchen here comes my son who would like to bake a cake. I told him later. He will have the right chance to do his stuff when everything is cleared at the table and at the kitchen. To tell you the truth when I'm preparing meal I want the kitchen to myself. I hate clutter. I want all the ingredients too in order and everything should be in the cupboard when I need it.
I advised him not to go on with his prep because first of all he needs the recipe. I want him to show me his cake's recipe so that I could help him bake it. He told me that he knew what he is doing because he did some baking at the school so there's no need for a recipe on hand. Then I said to wait for his Daddy to come home because he will need the ingredients for his desired cake. He wants to bake a chocolate cake and we don't have any piece of chocolate bar or powder for his plan. I think he doesn't hear me that he continued with his work. He grabbed the stainless bowl at the cupboard, the whisk, 2 eggs from the fridge, and the flour from the jar. Then he reached for the sugar in the jar only to be dismayed that it's empty. That's what I'm saying, he needs to wait for his father to bring the sugar and all the ingredients that I need for my pound cake. Then he mumbled as if I am the worst mother of all.
Anyway he proceeded with what he is doing. He didn't wait for anything that I ordered from his Daddy. He improvised. He used the Carnation cocoa powder with marshmallows, maple syrup, and used some other ingredients that would make it pleasing and appropriate for his kind of cake. He poured the mixed ingredients on the 2 small aluminum loaf pans evenly greased with melted butter and have them in the oven. Good that the chicken is almost ready for dinner. Took the roasted chicken out and placed it on the counter.
Somehow I feel uneasy or I feel embarrassed too when I distrust him for what he is doing. You know sometimes what culminate in my mind that he is too young for such kind of kitchen work. For I'm always been the one in charged at the kitchen for doing all the work such as cooking, baking, cleaning, dish washing, including minor errands like throwing the garbage, etc. You wont believe that I haven't graduated yet with those kind of work. I've been the "mess kit" since I was 5 years old. It's a job that was entrusted to me by my family. Shocking!? Kidding? Dish washing is a part of my childhood. I love water! I love the soap and the bubbles.
So knowing that my son can bake maybe he can compete with his Daddy. My husband's the baker at home so...I'm not really good at baking. My son's chocolate Brownie cake turned out just perfect! I had a small slice of that cake and had fresh brewed coffee after supper. My son is very resourceful and he has proven that once again. I need not compete then. I was about to have a piece of the cake once more and he stopped me saying his classmate, a girl will bring some candies and frosting(icing sugar) to put it on top of the cake.
Cherry or strawberry on top?
