Cooler breeze makes me feel fine. Whew! After a long week of having that so called heatwave finally the hot weather subsides. There's more air than you can imagine. Thank goodness at least that would help put off some fire on other parts of the province. Canada should always have a temperate zone designed to not to exceed the temperature up to 25 degrees centigrade or else our ocean and marine animals will suffer. What will happen to the whales, to the dolphins, and other sea creatures such as the millions of salmon. Yes that salmon. Campbell River is known as the salmon capital of the world. This is where the hatchery of salmons. If the weather is hot the city will lose billions of dollar in revenues. Not only that the forest is also the source of livelihood for the people here in Canada and once engulfed in flames surely the people will suffer again from all these chaotic environmental problems. Besides who would like an extreme heatwave wherein you wont be able to breathe from exhaustion, suffocation from inhailing smoke from those debris. Anyway we all need to breathe normally and when the weather is cool that's the only way you can feel that it's good to be alive.
The other day I received a call from my son's professor. First time to hear her voice over the phone. Actually first thought it was somebody I know because of the similarity in tone of voice with my sister-in-law. But no, she is the Chemistry professor. There are subjects that my son is studying through online course and Chemistry is one of them. It's a very broad subject to discuss with, very interesting yet very challenging at the same time. I once peek on his Chemistry notes and realized their Chemistry is not the same as my High School chemistry. My chemistry in High School is nothing to be compared with his subject. Ours is more like elementary chemistry just the fundamental theoretical explanation of and definition of chemistry, chemical formula, and memorization of the chemical formula and its atomic numbers. Few experiments and valencing something to that effect. While his Chemistry is more than College Chem. Complicated chemical formula, chemical reactions, composition and structure of atoms, higher problem solving and solution need to be solved in a more elaborate way. It's more like a subject that should be complicated enough for those students who are engaged in a laboratory or let say students who should master that subject because it's a preparatory to his course for the diploma or degree. I don't think my son will take BS Chemistry. So why complicate things up?
Anyway, I overheard that a genius in that "school" has achieved a mark of 96 % to be able for him to pass in University. It turned out that 96% is not enough. SFU wont admit a student who passed High School and finished all the requirements administered by the school and having a mark of 96% doesn't qualify a student an entry to a university? What the hell is that? What could be the problem?
It could be the same problem I encountered when I took college entrance exam test in UP (University of the Philippines). I passed all the requirements to be able to take the UPCAT test. I had an NCEE (National College Entrance Examination) mark of 94 % only but I was qualified to take the test, together with my HS classmates who are Valedictorian (NCEE result 99%), Salutatorian (NCEE result 96%), two of my other classmates with NCEE result of 90% and 92% and off we go to UP Diliman. Before we took the test we have to choose the College course or University course we need to pursue. The test is not really that hard if you study or did the review but fresh from the NCEE instruction and almost similar questionnaires, it's more than easy. Yeah the word is not that hard or complicated but it's the time that you have to watch or be concerned with. Because it's a time-pressured test everyone is nervous. Of course who wont be. After the exam we decided to roam our eyes and viewed the vast acres landmark of U.P. it's structure, the buildings and wide open space. Hmmm....who would like to be a student of UP? You will need a golf cart to be able to get in to the next building. Or you need a car or any kind of vehicle to be able to transfer one building to another. If you're poor or the can't affords should have bikes or bicycle to have access. Unless of course if your subjects are all integrated in one building and that's where comfort is.
To be continued.
