Sunday Steak

Third day of fishing went sour. It's not a favorable day on the 14th of June or because there are too many boats sailing and too many fishermen gathered around the location where they had the boat? It could be. That could be the reason. Salmons and other big fish have minds of their own. They know when they become endangered species they have to find a better habitat where they can protect themselves and most of all secure their family and their offsprings.

Take not that the ocean is not the only body of water surrounding the island. There are lakes, so many lakes within the area. There are rivers and ponds where fish can be found. Fly-fishing is also a way to catch fish at the rushing stream of water.

About 7 hours of being under the scorching heat of the sun while on the boat on the ocean being tossed gently by the waves simply I can react to the situation they were in. They caught salmons not that big in size compared to the first day they went out near the light house. My son Tyrel said they caught at least 4 dogfish and they are bigger than salmons. I found it ridiculous. Nobody eats the dogfish at home. I told my husband that he can use the dogfish as a bait instead for other big fish or a bait for crabs. What do you think?

We had fish for supper two times in a week already so I prepared beef steak this time and I told them it's an early Father's Day celebration. Saturday instead of Sunday. It's Sunday already just advance your mind. Oh I know you want to follow the calendar. It's good to follow the rules. It's only 6:56 pm, Saturday night and we're finished with an awesome supper. I was not able to lift the pot of young baby potatoes and my husband already sliced the steak and had fresh vegetable salad with cubes of avocado. I know, he didn't have lunch, just simple snack when he went fishing at very early morning.

I continued my cooking. I buttered the hot frying pan then tossed several prawns until its almost red in color, add the fresh wild curly ferns or coiled ferns (fiddleheads), sprinkled with desired spices and salt. Not amused, I added coconut milk for a delicious tasty flavorful viand. Darn the coconut cream is not enough. It's my first time to have those kind of ferns. Crunchy. Husband didn't eat a piece of that fern. It was him who bought it in the first place. Strange! Later he told me he had at least two pieces of those fiddleheads. Great! First thought I'm the only one who will eat those curly tops hahahahha! I was reluctant to eat fiddleheads but reminiscing that a friend of mine who is a doctor used to have it for her viand. She had a garden with those fiddleheads growing like yin-yang. She likes this loopsy fern so much it must be delicious. Other people used to pickle this type of fern using the technique  to make pickled cucumber.

Here's what fiddleheads looked like. I have given numerous names for fiddleheads such as: curly tops, loopsies, coiled ferns, 9669,  curly wild fern and if you are curious why not try it and have it for your introspection. First make sure you clean the ferns properly, wash them real good with clean water then boil it on a kettle for 15 minutes. Don't over cook it please. Then saute' it with butter add prawns or shrimps. You can use coconut cream and shredded ginger and add escargot or any kind of seafood for delicious treats.

HAPPY FATHER's DAY to my Father! To all The Fathers in the world who are good provider and good role models to their children you all should be happy and thankful that unlike before when it's only MOTHERS' DAY being celebrated around the world. It's a good thing now that another special day is added to make all the PARENTS proud and joyous that they are the most important human beings to their offspring, rather to their children. Enough dramatization. Pray to God almighty that we are all here living and experiencing the knowledge of life and love.
