The World Of Butterflies and Moths

 I have special fondness for butterflies and moths that's why when I heard about The Butterfly World garden In British Columbia, husband and I went there to visit. It was one joyous spectacular world of butterfly species. Beautiful as it is in colors, hues and wonders.  Collecting different variety is simply irresistible. Thank goodness they are all in a protective barrier inside the wide net to protect them from fluttering away outside its habitat.

There is a butterfly garden too in the Philippines but it's not as wide space wise consider that the species in that protective net is small but considering the butterfly species and moths could be varied and totally different from the species in BC. You know there are hundred thousands of them. Maybe in millions now in its endangered level. Millions in endangered level? Absurd?  Well depends on where you are residing. Seldom you see butterfly in urban areas. City zones have no butterflies nor moths. Have you seen one? It's totally miraculous if you see a butterfly in an urban city. Even here where I live where every houses, every garden have trees and floral garden seldom we see butterflies and moths. Crazy right? I remember in the province where we lived there were so many of them. Mostly monarch butterflies. the monarchs are mostly common butterflies and they clung to trees in cluster. Millions of them. Few blue morphs and cabbage moths whatever. Oh let me remind you of some cecropia moths that used to visit our santol tree in our yard. Many years ago when I was young, I was washing the dishes and right there from outside the window of our kitchen saw a very huge cecropia moth on that santol tree and sometimes it will flew right there on the bread fruit tree. Beautiful moth. Why a moth not a butterfly for such a beautiful gorgeous creature. The largest moth that I have seen in my entire search is about 10 inches (5 " width on the left side wing and 5" width on the right side wings) to 12 (6"X6" width)inches wide when its wings are spread even. That big? It's really, really big. Crazy right? Parang paniki. hahahhahaha!

 Ancyluris species. Not that exciting in its color and how its been captured through a lens. Sad to say I was using an old camera. It's not digital camera. The picture is old. Twenty years old. Took the photo during our visit to the Butterfly world in Kelowna. There's another one in Victoria, BC. I think there is a new Butterfly world close to Cathedral Grove. In Port Alberni? Uhm, I think there is one BW there also, maybe, maybe not.

 

This is the cecropia moth. In tagalog, it is called mariposa. Remember cecropia or mariposa is a moth not a butterfly.
