It's nice to see the local newspaper at the doorstep of our home at very early morning. Before, newspaper boy used to deliver the newspaper late in the afternoon. Well, I kinda like my new place. It's a subdivision not intended for retirees because so many families with young children here. Wish I could open up a mini-store or convenience store.
Ha ha! I'm dreaming. Not in Canada. Why is it? The law is stricter in this part of the world. Zoning is different and business establishment should be well planned. You can't just put up a convenience store in a residential area.
In Philippines, there are stores in every 4 to 10 houses within vicinity in the area where my family lives. My brother owned a small store and the house across the road has a store too, and there's a bakery where bread, pastries, cakes are baked everyday. Competition? Just walking distance to all amenities. In one street of 24 homes there are at least 2 medical clinic, 1 dental clinic, many families had their own doctors and nurses. No waiting-in-lines for appointment to see your doctor. It's inside the military camp so most of the head of the families are soldiers.
With the Global City established in the Home of the Philippine Army the "nature of occupancy" has dramatically changed. It becomes a business area, progressive and eventually ever-changing. There's that kind of "change" that never stop in the urban area or metro-retro where the rich developers never stop to provide "change" and they might wake up one day that the whole area (will be) are owned by foreigners. Very frightening indeed!
Oh, do I have to be frightened? It happened already! Japanese occupation happened during World War II. Will it happen again? History always repeat itself.
