I was answering a simple question on gravity and suddenly it was hacked. My answer was hacked. Darn! Why hackers?
Did you know that I can answer it again and again without even looking at books or any other reference because the answers are inside my brain?
Anyway, let me tell you this again. As what you had said or written that:
GRAVITY IS THE FORCE OF ATTRACTION THAT MAKES THINGS FALL STRAIGHT DOWN.
Straight down. From above the sky down to the ground? That could be possible "straight down" to the ground if you are using a powerful equipment such as rocket or missiles. However, there are other forces of nature to be considered such as the wind, the jet stream and because the Earth rotates in its axis so that "straight path" is sometimes not possible. Trajectory.
GRAVITY is the force that keeps humans standing on the ground. They can walk, they can run and do whatever they can do without being a balloon full of helium above the ground. It's the weight of their bodies that make them stand, this is the same thing with all living and non-living things. Certain weights and limits. Who are limitless? That's the question. Looks like the Earth is a planet made up of enormous amount of magnets (magnetosphere). Humans, animals and other objects have magnets too that can make the attraction possible. Humans have magnets in their bodies? It's true. Are you using cellphones? Can you use your fingers for touch tones? Are you attracted to your TV? Opposite attracts and when it's time to repel?
Truth is, it's the crust, mantle and core MAGNETOSPHERE that keep us grounded. Without magnetosphere you'll be in the ATMOSPHERE, to the IONOSPHERE to the EXOSPHERE...to the OUTER LIMITS.
The moon has less gravity that the astronauts had wore heavy body suits so that they can land and thus, walked on the surface. There must be a balance of weight and air. Their body suits provided them with oxygen to breathe.
On ZERO GRAVITY, anything will float on the air. No gravity means no air and absence of oxygen, maybe just helium and gas. How those astronauts can breathe? The shuttle has oxygen tank and air tank they need for the long duration of their stay above ground.
How you can float on water? I think it has something to do with buoyancy. There is less gravity on water.
NO GRAVITY means no land, no magnetosphere, no air, no oxygen only exosphere. Therefore, we have a lot to be thankful for having a planet with lots of gravity, magnetosphere, the air and oxygen we breathe everyday.
The question is why the lunar module fell on the water instead on the ground? While the module used by cosmonauts landed on the ground? I was thinking that there is variation in the amount of gravity on specified location or the amount of thrust and used of air bags and parachute held those modules in safe landing. Not satisfied with my answer, maybe consult the astronauts. Ask them if they really landed and walked on the moon.
