Mammoth Sunflower

I hope nobody's mad yet whenever I posted sunflowers on my website. It's just that August is the very special month for sunflowers and their majestic blooms happened to be on the month of August and also because I planted hundred of sunflowers at Springtime and only this month when these lovely, beautiful flowers bloomed to perfection.

At least don't need to visit a sunflower farm and have my selfies. Thank goodness that we have that fertile backyard where sunflowers seeds had its dominance. Also had discovered that what is written on the satchets of sunflower seeds are truthful. It's true that Russian Mammoth sunflower variety is the best of all sunflower seedlings because the sturdy stems can grow up to 12-14 ft. in height and the stems are thick and can grow up to 4" in thickness. That this special specie of sunflower can have flower heads the size of a big platter, from 10" to 14" and the possibility of 16" in size across the stem. Once the seeds inside the floret disc had mature or reached  maturity I think it will increase to 18 " in size. I had seen a huge sunflower head with its size 20" on you tube. It's hard to believe that sunflower can be that mega size.

Of course to have those nutseeds for harvest will take time. I think late September is the best time to gather those seeds and don't let those birds be the first ones to pick them. I noticed two days ago when those black birds, the group of crows keeping a tough guard on those berries and sunflowers at the yard. The friendly bees who gathered pollens are welcome but not the crows.
